Game Design - HBO

These are some of the design documents created for CSU Chico's student-run game studio, Project CGC. Our project, nicknamed HBO, was intended to be a first person stealth horror game.

Story Beats - HBO

I created this flowchart to function as a guide both the pragmatic story beats as well as for the emotions I wanted to evoke in the player. I attempted to clearly correlate the player's intended emotional state with the story while simultaneously enumerating some of the pragmatic steps we would take to accomplish these goals.

Paper Prototype

This is the original map I created for use with our paper prototype. Playtesting was overall very successful. One issue with this map was that it did not adhere to my intended design goal for the 3D experience, specifically this map gives away too much information to the player. The enemy routes are clearly laid out making it generally quite easy to avoid them. If I were to attempt this again I would keep the enemy's routes hidden from the players while gradually marking their paths as the player observed them.

Initial Playtest

This is a photo from our initial playtest of the ruleset I created to emulate goals I had for the game. It was a lot of fun!

Treatment

This is the original treatment I created for HBO. I'm pleased to note that I see significant room for improvement for the next treatment I work on.

Player State Flowchart

This flowchart was intended as a guide for programming a portion of our player controller. It does not follow UML guidelines but served well as a roadmap for our programmers...is what I'd like to say. I was the person who took on the majority of the player controller coding work. Still, this map was pretty useful nonetheless.
